After landing in Spain in February 2021, Amazon Fresh will now go to completely replace Prime Now. The company will close that platform to focus solely on Fresh when it comes to selling fresh and frozen food products.
Fresh also offers essential items, beauty and personal care products, toys and stationery. Now that the Prime Now shopping experience is integrated into Amazon, Prime Now website and app will be discontinued worldwide before the end of the year, according to company sources explain to elEconomista.
Only available in Madrid and Barcelona at the moment
Since its launch, the objective of Amazon Fresh has been to serve millions of customers throughout Spain throughout this year, competing directly with the country's traditional supermarket chains such as Mercadona, El Corte Inglés, Carrefour and others.
But, the closure of Prime Now does not mean that they will break relations with local stores, Amazon Fresh will continue to operate partners and local stores such as the Dia supermarket chain or the Mercado de la Paz.
Fresh started out being only available in Madrid and its surroundings, soon expanding to Barcelona. At the moment there is no information about its arrival in the rest of the Spanish communities, but the company has already said that intends to extend it to the entire country throughout 2021.
Where available, Amazon Fresh offers same-day delivery for all Amazon Prime customers. You do not have to pay anything beyond the cost of the products if the order is more than 50 euros; if it is less than this figure, shipping costs 3.90 euros, with the option of delivery in less than an hour for 4.99 euros.
