ASUS has just introduced the new ASUS ROG Phone 5, with RAM capacities ranging from 8 to 18GB.
The day has arrived. After the "aperitif" a few days ago in which we found out about the immense RAM memory that the device would include, the Taiwanese firm has made official the ASUS ROG Phone 5, direct continuation of ASUS ROG Phone 3, since in China 4 is considered a number that brings bad luck.
Thus, without the 4 but with up to 18GB of RAM under the case, the new ROG Phone 5 is released as the ultimate gaming smartphone, a high-end beast with a mission to lead one of the most peculiar segments of the current mobile landscape. To do this, ASUS has developed a terminal focused on performance, display, audio, control and battery, five fundamental aspects to which it has put its hand compared to the previous generation.

Conservative design with a little extra
To begin with, it is inevitable that we overlook the design of the device, quite similar to that seen in the ROG Phone 3 but yes, more in line with the current line of ASUS gaming products, including a small red-hued pixel primer next to device name. For the rest, we have a black glass back with a camera module positioned horizontally.
One of the curious parts of her rear is that you can customize logo colors and animations of the phone with a series of lights placed next to it, something useful for, for example, the notifications we receive. On the other hand, as a novelty this year, ASUS has also presented a white version of the terminal, which with the exception of the color, is identical to the original.
Performance: a mobile created to play
Regarding your performance, the ASUS ROG Phone 5 includes the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, standing at the same height as him or him. As they have explained in their presentation, it has a special feature enhanced by Qualcomm with which the terminal is capable of providing up to 144 frames per second with the highest possible graphic quality. Of course, the 5G section of the Snapdragon 888 contributes to reduce latency for smoother online gaming. According to ASUS, the ROG Phone 5 achieves 742,776 points in AnTuTu, well above the 707,306 points of the Xiaomi Mi 11 or the 632,381 of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra.
Also in regard to its interior, the effort made by ASUS stands out to offer users the possibility of customizing the device to the maximum through Armory Crate, a unified customization system from which you can establish personal settings for each app and game. In the same way, a performance manager with which you can check or adjust various parameters of the device, such as cooling, general performance, FPS, CPU consumption, etc.
In order to reduce the temperature of the phone during gaming sessions, ASUS has developed a special cooling system for the ROG Phone 5, which includes graphite plates and a vapor chamber. Similarly, change the arrangement of its internal components, finding a double battery which is separated by the CPU. Additionally, ASUS has presented a small ventilation device, the AeroActive Cooler 5, which you can attach to the mobile to relieve the heat of it up to 15 degrees.
Speaking of peripherals, next to the mobile phone the AirTrigger 5, an accessory that allows us to hold and control the mobile in a more comfortable way, which is complemented with a complete movement and gesture detection system.
Screen and battery, two crucial elements for gaming
As they have indicated, the phone incorporates a Samsung AMOLED panel that grows from 6.6 to 6.8 inch. Includes a refresh rate of 144Hz, HDR Always On Display and the highest degree of certification of Gorilla glass. Finally, ASUS has highlighted the development of its own ultra-fast system that improves the latency of the device up to 24.3 milliseconds, more or less half that of other premium range mobiles.
On drums, the ASUS ROG Phone 5 adds a capacity of 6,000mAh (there are two 3,000mAh batteries each) with 65W HyperCharge load, which allows the device to be charged half in just 15 minutes. According to ASUS, in games like League of Legends it holds practically twice as long as the Xiaomi Mi 11, offering ** up to 10 hours of uninterrupted gameplay **. In somewhat more demanding games, such as Call of Duty: Mobile, the ASUS ROG Phone 5 holds up to 7.5 hours of shooting and adrenaline.
Finally, it is especially interesting that ASUS has recovered the headphone port on the device, being able to connect audio peripherals without the need for intermediaries. On this, it must be added that in addition to pampering the sound section with two complete symmetrical speakers and haptic audio features, ASUS includes a special application, AudioWizard, to customize the phone's audio to our liking.
Don't fix what's not broken, what about their cameras?
Although perhaps it is not one of its main attractions or claims in a mobile designed for the gamer public, it is true that ASUS has not wanted to neglect this section. For this reason, it includes a triple camera at the same height as other high-end cameras, incorporating a 64-megapixel Sony main sensor, the well-known IMX686, as well as two macro and ultra-wide lenses. In other words: it is the same camera that the previous generation mounted.
Perhaps that is why, in its presentation, ASUS tiptoed through the photographic side a bit, highlighting something else all the accessories catalog that accompany the ROG 5, which include, in addition to the aforementioned AeroActive Cooler 5 and AirTrigger 5, various cases, headphones and gamepads.
A limited version as icing on the cake
Although perhaps it would need a separate article, the ASUS ROG Phone 5 has been accompanied by a limited edition created for the most epicurean gamers. Thus, the ASUS ROG Phone 5 Ultimate has been presented at the end, in the “one more thing” style, which includes a white back with certain metallic lines that give it a look cyberpunk the sea of futuristic.
For the rest, this exclusive edition is the one that effectively reaches 18GB of RAM, since, remember, the conventional ASUS ROG Phone 5 stays at 12GB and 16GB. In that sense, next to the ASUS ROG Phone 5 a pro version, which adds more internal storage to the device.
ASUS ROG Phone 5 pricing and capabilities
The ASUS ROG Phone 5 goes on sale in three different capacities. On the one hand, 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal memory for 899 euros, in front of 999 euros of the version with 16GB of RAM and identical ROM. There is also a version with "only" 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage for 799 euros, the most affordable price of the entire series.
