Apple now lets you export all your photos and videos from iCloud to Google Photos - here's how you can do it

At least until June 2021, Google Photos will be one of the best options to store our photos, since it offers unlimited free storage space, something that will end in the middle of this year but that we can still take advantage of, since everything that we upload until that day, will be stored at no cost.

If you are an iCloud user and want to backup your photos elsewhere or just transfer them to free up space, or because you will no longer use Apple's service, now you can easily do so thanks to the company's new portability tool.

How to Transfer Your Photos from iCloud to Google Photos

  • From your browser go to

  • Log in with your Apple ID (you will need to have an Apple device on hand to authenticate)

  • Select option Transfer a copy of your data:

You will have to wait a few seconds for a search in your files to be processed, and on the next page you will see a summary of the amount of photos and videos that you have stored in iCloud, in addition to the approximate space they occupy.

Below is a menu for choose where you want to transfer your photos and for now only Google Photos is included. You must select this service, obviously, and below check the Photos and / or Videos boxes to continue:

Transfer Icloud to Google Photos

Finally you just have to click on Continue for the process to start. This it may take three to seven days, depending on the amount of data to be transferred. Apple support says that whenever possible, photos will be transferred with their albums, but videos separately, without their albums.

Once transferred to Google, album and video file names coming from iCloud will start with "Copy of". Supported formats include: .jpg, .png, .webp, .gif, some RAW files, .mpg, .mod, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v ,. 3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts and .mkv files.
