Although most modern computers no longer even include disk drives for CDs, DVDs, or Blu-ray, this does not mean that there are not those who do use or need them and who may also want to export your physical video collections to a digital format, either as a local copy, in the cloud or to an external disk.
The ideal in that case is convert videos to MPEG-4 or more commonly known as MP4. It is a multimedia container format that is widely supported through almost any device and operating system that we can think of can play video, and converting other video formats to this is currently quite simple.
Convert a video with AVC
Although on the web you will find countless third-party tools to convert video, not all of them are free, without important limitations, or are free of adware. A good option that does comply with all this is Any Video Converter or AVC.
It is a simple, easy-to-use program that allows you to convert videos and that has support for multiple input and output formats, among which we can count MP4, MPEG, VOB, WMV, H264, H265, MKV, AVI, MOV, FLV, DVR-MS, WEBM and more.
It is also extremely easy to use and the interface includes Spanish among the supported languages. To convert a video you just have to add it with the button at the top (you can navigate between your local folders or you can even paste a URL from YouTube) and then choose an output format from the menu on the right:
Here you will find that the MP4 format has multiple "optimized versions" depending on the device you want to play them on. The reality is that any goes, whether you choose an iPhone or a PS4, what matters is the .mp4 extension. The only thing that changes is the resolution and that you can adjust manually later.
In the menu at the bottom right you can adjust basic settings and various video parameters. The first thing to do is name your file, choose the output folder, and you can also choose the video resolution and quality:
The free version lets you choose up to 1080p, and you have three types of quality: low, normal, and high. The higher the number you choose, the bigger the file size.
In the video parameters it is important that if you want a video with the best quality choose a high video bitrate, at least above 256. You can also adjust the frame rate per second, and try to always be at least 30 so that you have the best possible quality, although it is possible to adjust it up to 60 if you have chosen high quality before:
You can also change the video parameters in a similar way, and in the file list you can choose whether or not you want to add subtitles. When you have decided everything you just have to click on "Convert Now" and wait for the process to finish. The longer the video and the higher the quality, the longer it will take.
