Xiaomi Redmi Note 9s vs realme 6, which is better? Features comparison

We help you choose between the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9s and the realme 6, two of the most successful cheap Chinese phones of 2020.

To this day, the realme 6 is one of the most recommended cheap mobile phones and one of the most solid tests of realme to certify its commitment to the user.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 9s or realme 6

Xiaomi Redmi Note 9s or realme 6? Which one should you choose?

This Chinese brand has been making it difficult for Xiaomi for a while thanks to a roster of devices with a value for money very, very difficult to match, launching "torpedoes" of between 100 and 200 euros that go directly to the water line of the orange company. However, this realme 6 have a tough competitor on Xiaomi, the Redmi Note 9s, which raises the stakes in the cheap mid-range by presenting itself as the rival par excellence from realme's mobile. How exactly are the two devices different? Which is a better buy? Go making popcorn because this comparison is one of the complicated ones.

First test: design and display

About your design, if we put one mobile next to another, we will see that its front part is practically identical except for the placement of the hole in screen that houses the front camera. In the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S it is placed in the upper central part and in the realme 6 it is next to the upper left corner.

If we turn them around, things change, since their backs are from two different worlds. For starters, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S has a nice glass body that gives it a touch perhaps more premium, while the realme 6 is manufactured in plastic. In the same way, cameras and their placement It differs a lot from one model to another, while the Xiaomi device groups the lenses in the center, the Realme 6 gathers them vertically on one side.

At the level of weight and measurementsBoth phones are very similar, the Redmi Note 9S being a couple of millimeters larger but, yes, a lot more heavy (In total, about 20 grams more, reaching 209 grams). When it comes to color, the realme 6 is usually available in blue, white, black and green, for its part, the Redmi Note 9S is in gray, white and blue. Remember that the former has a completely unique glossy plastic finish, while the latter has a less showy but more elegant glass back.

Finally, where we do find a greater difference is in the screen, a shared field at the level of main technology (both panels are IPS) but with some other fundamental change in the execution: on the one hand the Redmi Note 9S is something bigger (6.67 inches compared to the 6.5 inches of the realme 6) and offers extra protection (Gorilla Glass 5 compared to Gorilla Glass 3 of the realme 6), and on the other, the realme 6 features the detail of the 90Hz refresh rate, an unusual feature in mobiles of 200 euros or less and that will make you notice the mobile much more fluid.

If you look at the camera, which one is better?

We enter a section in which we find subtle differences marked above all by the number of megapixels of your main sensor. While the Xiaomi Redmi 9S has 48 megapixels in its main lens, the realme 6 increases that number to 64 megapixels.

For the rest, the two mobiles go on the market with a very similar four camera system, which complements the main lens with a second 8 megapixel ultra-angular sensor, a third depth sensor and finally an auxiliary macro camera, very fashionable among mobiles in its price range. In this section, the biggest difference is found in the resolution of that last macro sensor, which offers a bit more sharpness on the Xiaomi mobile (it goes from 2 to 5 megapixels).

In general, you will not notice many differences in the photographic field, since, except for the details mentioned above, the two devices share specifications in the cameras. Thus, the front cameras are very similar and the two devices offer the Same features when it comes to video recording, with the exception that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S camera allows the slow motion video recording, specifically at 960fps.

Which one has the better battery?

Rear of realme 6i

The battery is one of the strengths of the realme 6.

At the level of battery and performance we find two well differentiated capacities. While the realme 6 has 4,300mAh, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S enjoys 5,020mAh, a higher capacity that on the other hand also explains its greater weight.

With the numbers on the table it seems clear that Xiaomi's mobile will offer a longer duration, although as far as I'm concerned, this includes 30W fast charge, which promises to load the terminal "from 0 to 100" in less than an hour. For its part, the Redmi Note 9S is "satisfied" with 18W, a figure that will make you have to wait a little longer to fully charge the battery.

Very similar performance and memory

Basically, here the discussion is on whether you prefer the MediaTek Helio G90T from the realme 6 or the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G from the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S. Both are level processors optimized for the mid-range, although it is true that the Snapdragon 720G of Xiaomi usually something more efficient, especially if we look towards the ground gaming.

Apart from that, it must be remembered that in the case of the realme terminal, the MediaTek Helio G90T is the same processor we saw in the Redmi Note 8 Pro, so you will hardly have any power problem with it. Moreover, it is very possible that thanks to the 90Hz display notice a greater fluidity in the realme 6.

Regarding its version of Android, the two mobiles were launched in spring 2020, so both are released with Android 10 out of the box. While the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S comes with MIUI 11 installed, the realme 6 offers realmeUI, a ColorOS-based personalization layer of its own. It must be said that these two layers are quite similar, although it is true that MIUI 11 is a bit more complex to use than realmeUI, which is more intuitive and usually brings less bloatware.

On the other hand, if we look at the issue of memory, we will see that the two mobiles come with a completely identical base capacity: 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, the latter expandable by microSD card. Of course, we can always "vitamin" our device choosing a higher version, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage in the case of the Xiaomi mobile and 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage in the case of the realme 6.

Connectivity and other features

Again, we are at a point where there are not excessive differences. The two mobiles have a USB-C connector, capacity for two SIM cards and a microSD card, fingerprint sensor on the side of the device, FM radio, Bluetooth 5.0, 3.5mm headphone jack ...

The only noticeable difference would be in the NFC, included only in the realme terminal.

Which one should you choose?

Since the two terminals are very similar, we firmly believe that your purchase decision should be influenced above all by the price. If you are clear that you want save on your new device, do not think about it and buy the realme 6, which, with realme 7 already in the spotlight, it is very possible that you will find online a knockdown price.

We also recommend the realme 6 in case you need yes or yes a mobile with NFC or if you're dying to try a screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, something that you will hardly find in another mobile of less than 200 euros and that in this comparison, he only has realme's mobile.

If, on the other hand, money gives you a little more equal and you want to choose the best possible mobile between the two, opt for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S. After all, you will not notice many differences in the main camera and you will have a mobile with a tad more performance, both at the battery level (remember that it has greater capacity) and at the level of fluidity (its screen does not have a refresh rate of 90Hz, but in the long term you will notice the Qualcomm processor).

In addition, you will enjoy slow motion video, a larger screen and a glass design much more premium.
