Spain is the fifth country in the world with the most spam calls

In a year marked by confinement, unwanted calls have grown by 18% globally with Spain as the fifth most affected country.

We have mentioned it many times, that there are times when it sounds curious and really strange to see third-party manufacturers take more care of the Android experience than Google itself, which does work on a blocking the spam phone for your Phone app after Samsung has evolved yours for several years in collaboration with Hiya, also announcing it by default on all its mobiles from this year 2020.

To some it will seem like one more "pijada" to upload our data to the Internet and analyze them on other people's servers, but the truth is that these applications of intelligent detection of calling numbers are most useful for avoid a spam phone that is on the rise and without brakes for several years now.

In fact, echoing a study by TrueCaller, colleagues from Europa Press already told us that indeed Spain is the fifth most affected country in the world by unwanted calls and the spam telephone type, which has increased globally up to 18% in the last year.

Spam calls increased 300 percent worldwide in 2018

Telephone 'spam', the great cross of smartphone universalization, at all-time highs in Spain.

The spam phone is a real problem, and not just an annoying reality

This year 2020 has been a complex year, or rather it is still being, and the change in our daily habits has only served to unwanted calls increase globally significantly, prompting TrueCaller experts to try "Understand the impact" of such a quantity of spam and commercial or fraudulent calls without request or prior registration of the client.

In the study you can see data as interesting as the identification of nearly 145.5 billion unknown calls, 25% more than in 2019, with a whopping 31.5 billion contacts cataloged as spam across the planet, and that's taking into account only the first 10 months of 2020.

The pandemic affected in a certain way, yes, because in March, April and May there is a decrease in the amount of spam which later recovered in summer, with maximum in the month of October anticipating the important Christmas campaign that unfortunately has been left out of the study.

Google Phone App

The Google and Samsung phone apps already have this integrated 'spam' detection system.

By countries, Brazil is the most affected with 49.9%followed by the United States (28.4%), Hungary (28.3%), Poland (20.4%) and Spain (18.3%), which remains in fifth place increasing its share from 12.2% registered in 2019.

20% of the unwanted calls that have been identified in our country are scams, with calls from operators going up to 23% and business telemarketing as the main source from spam telephone with 32%.

It becomes clear that this is a real problem, very difficult to combat and probably the most annoying thing about the democratization and universalization of the smartphone, which has given us direct access to any company with just have databases of mobile numbers or fixed to call indiscriminately.

Maybe because of it native solutions on the smartphone become necessary, and Google has put the batteries integrating the detector of spam on the Android Phone, with a solution similar to the one used years ago by Samsung, which analyzes the origin according to the data collected in user reports, in addition to "Listen" the first moments of the call to identify unwanted or fraudulent ones.
