Microsoft releases free backgrounds for Skype and MS Teams in tribute to Paint (and ugly Christmas sweaters)

The Christmas spirit has arrived at Microsoft. And, in the same way that Spanish municipalities welcome this time of year by inaugurating their Christmas lights, Microsoft does it by releasing ... sweaters. Ugly sweaters, and inspired by Paint, to be exact. And also funds for Skype and MS Teams.

If you are a Microsoft Teams user, you can download from the Xbox Gear Shop a compressed file with fourteen custom background images, offering screenshots of MS Paint (and four of them themed of the aforementioned Windows Ugly Sweater campaign).

These same background images are also available for Skype, although in this case you will not need to download it from any website, because all of them are accessible directly from the app: you just need to click on the 'More' button within a video call window and then on 'Choose background effect'.

Tell me about the sweaters

If, in addition to the background images, you have been interested in the ugly Christmas sweaters, you should know that it is the first time that Microsoft has put them on sale from its website: the previous versions, based on the theme of Windows 95 and Windows XP, were sent only to influencers.

This year's Paint-based sweater is on sale in the U.S. for $ 69.99 per copy. of which 20 will go to the Girls Who Code initiative if you buy it before December 23rd.

Windows 95 for Windows 10

But that's not all: within the same promotional website, Microsoft has included the download of Windows 95 in Electro app formatn (that is, programmed with JavaScript), available both for the most modern Windows and for macOS and Linux. And remember that it includes Doom and Netscape Navigator.
